proud to be part of the
spokane lilac festival!
Lilac City Brew Fest is proud to announce that proceeds from this year’s festival will go towards the Spokane Lilac Festival Association’s scholarship fund.
The Spokane Lilac Festival has been a “Lilac City” tradition since 1938. The Associated Garden Clubs and the Spokane Floral Society of the time created an event designed to showcase our area youth in time for the annual lilac bloom. A parade through the downtown core and a royalty program to honor young women from the Spokane area was created. Since then, the Spokane Lilac Festival has grown into the Inland Northwest’s oldest and largest community event, celebrating spring, youth and community spirit.
The Festival provides an estimated economic impact of $1.6 million annually for the greater Spokane area. As part of the celebration, volunteer Directors and Lilac Royalty Court members of the Spokane Lilac Festival travel from April through October to represent Spokane throughout the Northwest. They visit hospitals, nursing homes and schools in more than 20 communities with their float and royal court each festival season traveling in excess of 8,000 miles each year.
The prime event of the Festival is the Armed Forces Torchlight Parade (taking place after Brew Fest!) which includes school bands, parade floats, marching units, youth groups of all ages and military units from the Inland Northwest in front of more than 150,000 people in downtown Spokane.
Over more than eighty years, the Lilac Festival has undergone several changes yet has remained true to its original objective: promoting today’s youth as our greatest resource.
